Share a WhatsApp conversation without screenshots
A few messages are easy to forward. A longer exchange needs its context: who said what, in which order, and when. Pick a sharing method based on how much of the conversation someone needs to read.
Turn an exported chat into a readable link
Preserve’s workflow starts with a WhatsApp export. The aim is to keep the useful part of the exchange together in one scrollable page, instead of asking someone to assemble a conversation from several files.
- Export the individual or group conversation from WhatsApp and keep the original file.
- Open the export in a chat viewer and find the relevant phrase, participant, or date.
- Select a first and last message, including enough context to understand the exchange.
- Preview the conversation, check the selected content, and use the sharing tool’s publish option to create a link.
Keep enough context for the reader
For a group plan, include the proposal and the replies that confirm it. For a memory, include the messages that explain why the moment mattered. For a handoff, include the question and the answer rather than just the final line.
A smaller selection is easier to read, but cutting too tightly can change the meaning. Preview the beginning and end as if you were seeing the conversation for the first time.
Review the content and access before sharing
Check names, phone numbers, addresses, attachments, and messages from other participants before sharing. Only include information you have permission to share.
Treat a link as something that can be forwarded. An unlisted page is not the same as a password-protected page. Check the service’s access controls and deletion policy before using it for sensitive conversations.
Chat history links and click-to-chat links do different things
A WhatsApp click-to-chat link starts a conversation with a phone number. It does not display the history of an existing chat. A shared conversation page is for reading a past exchange outside WhatsApp.
If your goal is to read an exported conversation yourself, you may only need the TXT transcript or a chat viewer. Publishing a link is a separate step for sharing it with someone else.
